Congratulations to Trade and Investment Queensland (TIQ)’s Taiwan Office for being awarded the Outstanding Foreign Commerce Agency in Taiwan last week. TIQ in Taiwan is the first ever state government agency to receive the Outstanding Foreign Commerce Agency Award by the General Chamber of Commerce of the ROC.
The TIQ Office in Taiwan was established in 1991 and is one of the earliest state government representative offices in Taiwan. Taiwan is Queensland's fifth largest export destination, with exports totaling more than AU$7 billion in the 12 months to June 2023, with 12.9% year-on-year increase.
Meanwhile, Queensland imported AU$1.7 billion worth of goods from Taiwan, with a 7.4% increase compared to the previous year. Thus, making Taiwan 9th largest importing partner for Queensland.
Half of all direct flights from Taiwan to Australia are from Taipei to Brisbane, demonstrating the strong links between our two places. Queensland is also the most popular destination for Taiwanese students, tourists, working holiday visa holders, and immigrants in Australia.
This year, the Queensland Treasurer and Minister for Trade and Investment, the Mayor of Bundaberg, Gladstone, Scenic Rim, Logan, Gold Coast, and the Deputy Mayor of Redland visited Taiwan to promote friendship and business ties between the people.
Over the past two years, the TIQ office has nominated more than 250 outstanding Taiwanese for Global Talent Visas to further strengthen the integration of economic and research cooperation between Queensland and Taiwan.
