Solar: Australia’s New Gold Rush — ANZCham Forum Spotlights New Investment Opportunities

ree

Taipei, Taiwan – 6 June, 2025 – The Australia New Zealand Chamber of Commerce in Taiwan (ANZCham) hosted the 2025 Australia–Taiwan Solar and Storage Investment Forum last Friday, drawing a full house of over 200 registrants. Co-hosted with TÜV Rheinland Group and supported by the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade), Trade and Investment Queensland, KPMG Taiwan, ANZ Taiwan, and BloombergNEF, the forum brought together key industry leaders and government representatives to explore collaboration in renewable energy between Australia and Taiwan.

Expert speakers from Austrade, ANZ Bank, BloombergNEF, HD Renewable Energy, KPMG Australia, and TÜV Rheinland delivered deep insights into policy frameworks, investment incentives, emerging technologies, project financing, and cross-border tax considerations. With sessions held under the Chatham House Rule, participants were encouraged to engage in open, forward-thinking dialogue on the future of solar and storage collaboration.

The forum highlighted Australia’s strategic advantage as a prime destination for renewable energy investment—offering the world’s highest solar radiation per square metre, an impressive 91% drop in solar costs since 2010, and status as the largest lithium producer globally. With distributed solar capacity projected to grow fivefold and utility-scale solar to expand more than eightfold by 2050, speakers underscored Australia’s readiness for long-term partnerships with Taiwanese developers.

Taiwanese companies, facing land constraints and regulatory saturation at home, were encouraged to look to Australia’s abundant land, natural resources, and policy support for international expansion. HD Renewable Energy, Taiwan’s leading investor in Australian solar and storage projects, shared case studies of large-scale hybrid developments already underway across multiple Australian states.

The half-day forum concluded with a VIP dinner attended by senior officials including Mr. Mark Ho, Deputy Secretary-General of the Presidential Office, and Mr. Chun-Li Lee, Director-General of the Energy Administration. The evening strengthened bilateral ties and reaffirmed high-level commitment to accelerating clean energy transition.

The event was part of ANZCham’s broader commitment through its Energy Committee, the chamber’s largest and most active group, which fosters cross-border energy collaboration through business forums, policy advocacy, and stakeholder engagement. Businesses interested in joining the committee or learning more about chamber membership are invited to contact the ANZCham Executive Team.
